“A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum,” a musical with music and lyrics by Stephan Sondheim and book by Burt Shevelove and Larry Gelbart, opens at Holland Civic Theatre on Thursday, October 8, 2009, and runs through Saturday, October 24, 2009. This hilarious musical is inspired by the farces of the ancient Roman, Plautus. It tells the bawdy story of a slave and his attempts to win his freedom by helping his young master woo the girl next door.
Performances are Thursdays through Saturdays at 8:00 pm with a matinee on Sunday, October 18 at 2:00 pm. General admission tickets are $18. Tickets for seniors are $16 and students are $10. Group discounts are available. The box office opens on October 1 and can be reached at 616.396.2021. Box office hours are Monday to Friday from 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm, Thursday and Friday 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm, and one hour before each show. The Holland Civic Theatre is located at 50 West Ninth Street in Downtown Holland.
