Reminiscent of years gone by, this special event celebrates Sinterklaas, the benevolent St. Nicholas. In true Dutch folk tradition, Sinterklaas arrives each December on his great white horse, surrounded by the mischievous Zwarte Piets, who bring candy to all of the children.

Sinterklaas will arrive at the Eight Street Market Place and lead a procession of young and old alike east on 8th Street to Central Avenue and then to Centennial Park. At Centennial Park, the mayor will officially “welkom” Sinterklaas to Holland. After Sinterklaas greets the crowd, everyone is invited across the street to the Holland Museum to meet him in person and enjoy cookies and hot chocolate.

Before the procession, the Holland Area Arts Council will host a free lantern-making workshop from 4:30 pm – 6:30 pm for all children who plan to participate in the procession. Sinterklaas will also make a special appearance at the workshop at 5:30 pm.
