Funktion, West Michigan’s premier funk band, has spent the last year performing their own brand of funky music to audiences around the state. Funktion brings back the classic funk and soul sounds of the 1960s and 70s, while intertwining some of the more contemporary musical elements of rock, R&B, and hip-hop. Each member of this Kalamazoo-based sextet brings a diverse perspective to the music and stage. Their backgrounds range from formally-trained to self-taught in countless styles: bebop, R&B, bluegrass, rock, jazz fusion, and funk (of course). Funktion’s musical prowess is matched only by the infectious energy of their live show. A type of energy that is so contagious that even the most self-conscious guy in the room is sure to find his way to the dance floor. Featuring large amounts of musical improvisation and an array of talented guest musicians, each Funktion show is truly unique.
