"Thank God for Michigan! Local Soldiers in the Civil War" Exhibit
Thursday May 20 - Sunday July 11, 2010
After the Confederate attack on Fort Sumter, President Lincoln requested that the northern states send volunteers for service. Michigan raised several regiments, including the 25th Infantry, Company I. Over half of the men who volunteered for Company I were from Holland, most of them recent Dutch immigrants, including Benjamin and Dirk Van Raalte. “Thank God for Michigan! Local Soldiers in the Civil War” features artifacts from the museum’s archives and from several local collectors.
