Grand Rapids Symphony Featuring Julie Albers
Saturday, March 07, 2009, 8:00 PM
What were you doing at age two? Learning how to run or kick a ball? Julie Albers was learning how to play the violin. At age four Albers switched to the cello, eventually beginning a career that would take her to concert halls in the U.S., Europe, New Zealand, Taiwan and Korea.
To commemorate the Grand Rapids Symphony’s 79th Season, the orchestra performs Haydn’s Symphony No. 79. Known as the “father” of the symphony, Haydn standardized much of its early structure. Most of his career was spent as the court musician for the Nikolaus Esterhazy estate where he wrote thousands of works. This beautiful Symphony opens briskly with soaring brass and strings expressing an optimistic melody. A variety of moods arise throughout, yet all can be described as simply beautiful.
