EcoTrek Fitness is an original program (NOT a franchise) created by Cari Draft that offers outdoor group workouts that integrate cardio, strength training and flexibility. Cari has developed the 75-minute sessions that are held several times a week, year 'round, at one of many different “series areas,” no matter what the weather. We meet in rain, snow or sunshine and there is no such thing as bad weather, only "bad" choices in clothing! An ACE certified fitness trainer, Cari obtained her additional outdoor certification in a training program held at Nike Headquarters in Beaverton, Oregon in May of 2006. Two weeks later she led a group of friends and acquaintances on an inaugural EcoTrek session. West Michigan has incredible public areas available to us, so it was just a matter of convincing people to come outside and follow Cari's lead. Cari and the other series leaders research a location, then will choreograph workouts that maximize our Trekkers’ fitness goals. We utilize both naturally occurring geography like hills and trees, but also such man-made ‘props’ as bleachers and picnic tables. We always incorporate stretching somewhere in the session. It’s that kind of variety that is a key element to the program’s success. EcoTrek participants love exploring off the beaten path, and enjoy other benefits of becoming physically fit outdoors.
