This mostly wooded 20-acre site includes a mature beech-maple-hemlock forest, a steep dune formation, and 738’ of Lake Michigan frontage. Improvements completed in 2012 include a paved parking area, modern restrooms, a barrier-free trail loop, and an extensive series of stairs and boardwalks traversing the dune and providing access to the sandy beach. Decks provide seating and views of Lake Michigan and host a display highlighting the property as the site of a scene from the Tom Hanks movie, "Road to Perdition." Vehicle Permit: Ottawa County residents - $5.00/day or $15.00/annual pass Non-Residents: $7.00/day or $25.00/annual pass Seniors (60+) - $7.00/year or regular daily fees Motor vehicle parking fees are in effect from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend. Motor vehicle fees are required whether or not the park entrance is staffed. Note: Ottawa County provides NO LIFEGUARDS at parks with swimming facilities. Trails are wheelchair accessible and all stairs are designed to be ADA accessible. Park Hours Olive Shores is open until the first heavy snowfall and re-opens on March 1. March 1 through October 15 - 7:00am -10:00pm October 16 through end of February - 7:00am - 8:00pm Fees Ottawa County motor vehicle parking fees are in effect from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend. Daily or annual permits are accepted. Olive Shores has a self-service fee station for $7.00 daily permits for non-residents and $5 daily for residents. The closest location to purchase an Ottawa County annual permit is Kirk Park 1½ miles north on Lakeshore Drive. Dog Policy Due to the narrow paths, stairways, boardwalks and trails, dogs are not allowed at Olive Shores. Dog policies vary from park to park, so please check each park's webpage carefully for rules. Leader dogs for persons with disabilities are permitted. Ottawa County Open Space Lands allow dogs off leash to run and play freely, so be sure to read about these sites as well. Directions Located in Port Sheldon Township. Take US 31 to Stanton Street (south of M-45) and travel west to Lakeshore Avenue. Travel south on Lakeshore Avenue to Olive Shores Drive. Travel on Olive Shores Drive to the park entrance on the west side of the road.
