Things to Do

Seasonal activities

Any time of year, you can enjoy Holland's natural beauty with a bike ride along miles of paved paths, a hike in the Lake Michigan dunes where you are rewarded with breathtaking views, or stroll the sidewalks of our award-winning downtown.  Families can stay busy in any season with a variety of kids' attractions, an award-winning Aquatic Center, performance theatres, and museums.

Dutch Dance Tulip Time Spring Holland Michigan
Spring brings Holland's premier event: Tulip Time!

The whole city bursts with millions of colorful tulips during our Tulip Time Festival, one of the best times to visit our parks, gardens, and Dutch attractions. The tulips generally bloom in late April and early May, while the festival is scheduled the first Saturday to the second Saturday of May each year.
Spring also brings the LAUP (Latin American United for Progress) Fiesta, drawing over 20,000 attendees and providing latino entertainment, delicious authentic food, and even a carnival!

In April, keep an eye out for family-friendly Spring Break specials and events!

Summer is beach time!

With five public Lake Michigan beaches, it's easy to find a place to relax. The sugar-sand beaches are clean and make a great family getaway for the day. Lake Michigan is great for swimming, boating, and paddling. Holland has multiple options to rent equipment for outdoor recreation, from bikes to sea doos to paddleboards, and even camping equipment!

Summer is also a great time to visit Holland's signature Dutch attractions, or attend free Downtown events such as the Farmer's Market, outdoor concerts, or street performers. Depending on when you are here, there might even be an opportunity to pick your own fresh fruit. Look for strawberries in June, blueberries in July and August, and raspberries and apples in September.

Autumn brings a harvest of orchards, fall color, and our renowned Farmer's Market.

Take a driving (or biking) fall color tour along the lakeshore, discover treasurers at local antiques stores along the way, or visit an orchard to pick a bushel of apples. Holland's fall events include the Tulipanes Latino Art & Film Festival, Holland Museum's Civil War Muster and Encampment, Fall Fest, and Downtown's Live Mannequin Night. There are also brewery tours and plenty of live music to be enjoyed!

You can't go wrong with holiday shopping in Holland.

Downtown boasts over 100 locally owned shops and restaurants with something for everyone: boutiques, home accents, art, wine, oils and vinegars, and fair-trade goods. During Dutch Winterfest check out the open-air European KerstMarkt inspired by the Christkindl Markets in Germany. Seventeen booths offer everything from holiday arrangements to wooden toys. Downtown also offers special shopping events, a lighted parade and a visit from SinterKlaas!

And in winter, you can enjoy the outdoors with some cross-country skiing, ice skating, or sledding. Or stay inside to tour the museums, see a show, and swim at the Holland Aquatic Center. For every season, there's plenty to see, lots to do, and everything to enjoy!
