Don’t let the winter weather slow you down! Holland, Michigan offers plenty of outdoor adventures and hidden treasures!

No matter the season, Holland provides the perfect landscape for outdoor enthusiasts! Known for our beautiful lakes and beaches, Holland’s coastline is equally as beautiful during the winter months. We have over 1800 acres of parks for hiking, fat-tire biking, snowshoeing, and cross-country skiing. With over 8 miles of mountain and fat-tire biking and hiking at Riley trails, the dune climb up to Mt. Pisgah, and the wooded hiking trails at Sanctuary Woods, there is truly something for everyone.

When you visit Holland for an overnight getaway, start your morning off by Exploring the 2 miles of rich wooded dune trails and high bluffs that Mt. Pisgah offers, along with breathtaking snowy views of the beach and our lighthouse, “Big Red."  If you want to try a few different outdoor activities in one location, head to Pigeon Creek; a local park that offers miles of trails for snowshoeing, sledding, and cross-country skiing with lighted and groomed trails for both traditional and skate skiing. And no worries if you don’t own your own gear, Pigeon Creek offers ski and snowshoe rentals making it easy for you to get out to hit the trails. If you get chilled or need to take a break, stop in to Pigeon Creek’s warming lodge where you can get a cup of hot chocolate and enjoy a few snacks to refuel while you warm back up.

If you are interested in snowshoeing and hiking through Hemlocks and dunes, Saugatuck Dunes State Park is just under 12 miles south of Holland and offers breathtaking views of Lake Michigan from the top of the dunes or on the snowy winter beaches. Cross-country skiing is also allowed, so if you head out there to hike or snowshoe please be mindful of the ski trails.

These trails offer the perfect west coast winter adventure, but make sure you head back to town to re-fuel and drink, dine, and get cozy at any one of the restaurants in town. And never underestimate the amenities and luxury of a good hotel stay!

For those who would prefer to stay out of the elements and close to town, enjoy downtown Holland’s snow free streets and cobblestone sidewalks while shopping one-of-a-kind boutiques and galleries, and hop from microbreweries, to restaurants for a culinary adventure!

Keep in mind that when you plan your trip, Sundays in Holland are widely known as a day to recover and rest, so many individually owned and operated businesses may be closed. When you are planning, consider shopping on Saturday and leaving your Sundays open for your outdoor adventures.
