by Marta Malviya

Let the fun begin - it is officially wedding season! What better place to hold or attend a wedding than by the lakeshore? Whether you are attending a beach wedding, a rustic-inspired celebration, or a black-tie affair, 8th Street in Holland is the perfect place to shop. Here is a round-up of where to look for the perfect apparel for any type of wedding… (As an added benefit, the stores mentioned cross lines and provide dresses for many different styles of weddings and clothes for other occasions. And they are all within three blocks of each other. You get the idea.)

JB&Me- Let’s start with JB&Me. Nothing says rustic wedding quite like florals, ruffles and maxi dresses.  JB&Me offers several choices that are able to check the boxes for all of the above. Their extensive array of footwear is an added and appreciated convenience.

Spring Sweet- What would summer along the lakeshore be without a beach wedding (or ten)? If floral, eclectic, and soft is what you are looking for, then Spring Sweet has you covered. Shoppers will not only find a nice selection of trendy dresses, they will also find charming home accents, gifts, and fresh flowers (perfect for a bridal bouquet or reception tables). If you are the bride, Spring Sweet also has a boutique on the second floor. This attentively curated bridal boutique is by appointment only, so be certain to plan accordingly.

Francis Jaye - If attending a wedding near the lake, on a boat, or in a shipyard, Francis Jaye is a great place to start. From fun sashes to bright colors (think poppy) to classic seersucker, shoppers will surely be pleased with the casual and fashionable selection.

Threads on 8th - This store serves up several choices for a swanky cocktail reception. Bell sleeves, ruffles, and stripes are just a few sophisticated options for evening cocktail attire.

Studio K- Posh country club receptions require classic and polished attire with a stylish and chic twist. Studio K carries exquisite brands to choose from for just such an occasion. As if that weren’t enough, they also hold trunk shows from time to time with names like Trina Turk and Nicole Miller.

White House Black Market- Again, in the realm of more formal affairs, WHBM’s store on 8th Street allows for easy browsing to find the perfect dress or modern jumpsuit for a black-tie reception. Many of the dresses have thicker, more conventional material that cater to the traditional wedding event but with a contemporary flair.

Talbots- Talbots provides all of the wonderful classic dresses shoppers have come to know and love. Color block, sheath, and scallops all can be found in this established store and make finding the perfect dress for a traditional wedding setting effortless.

Francesca’s- Weddings at wineries is another Michigan favorite, and Francesca’s has just the apparel you need with soft colors, a-lines, and lace. Feeling whimsical at a local winery wedding? … Sounds wonderful!

There isn’t anything quite like wedding season along the lakeshore in Michigan with its abundance of lovely settings.  8th Street presents a number of shops all within a three-block area to ensure guests are dressed perfectly for the occasion. After all, “It’s Wedding Season, Kid!” (--Wedding Crashers)
