Biking
Whether looking to enjoy a leisurely ride to the beach or take on the Holland 100, your pathway to happiness begins here.
More than 150 miles of bike trails spool out around the area, making Holland an ideal hub for cycling. Looped routes link popular destinations like Tunnel Park, Window on the Waterfront, and Kollen Park. Other scenic routes include the 11-mile wooded tract to Saugatuck and the 20-mile Lakeshore Connector Path winding its way north to Grand Haven. For a longer ride, choose from two 40-mile loops starting downtown, or join the 500-mile US Bike Route 35 that runs through our town all the way to Canada.
Interested in e-biking? Whether you can ride an e-bicycle on a trail depends on several factors, including the e-bike's class, the type of trail and whether the authority that manages or oversees the trail allows the use. The DNR is installing signs at trailheads indicating allowable e-bike use.
To qualify as an e-bike in Michigan, the bike must meet the following requirements:
- It must have a seat or saddle for the rider to sit.
- There must be fully operational pedals.
- It must have an electric motor of no more than 750 watts (or 1 horsepower).
Class 3 e-bikes, which are pedal-assisted and have a maximum speed of 28 miles per hour, remain prohibited on any state-managed non-motorized trail.
